Job Summary Oklahoma Department of Corrections is recruiting for Correctional Security Officers in multiple facilities across the State of Oklahoma. Candidates must attend an 8‑week live‑in academy in Oklahoma City (Sun 6:00PM–Thu 6:00PM) and can return home on weekends. Academy starts October 12, 2026. Lodging and meals are provided.Compensation : Correctional Officer – $44,680.90; Corporal – $46,924.80.Basic Purpose Maintain the security, control and custody of inmates in adult correctional facilities.Typical Functions Provide security and supervision to inmates in a variety of situations and activities; maintain security of an assigned area or post.Provide security and supervision over inmate work crews; escort inmates to work sites; inventory and control all equipment, weapons, tools and keys.Patrol yards, grounds, cell houses, corridors, dormitories and work areas on an assigned shift; observe activities and movements of inmates; manage inmate conduct, work and discipline.Maintain order and discipline during programs, meals and recreation periods; inspect living areas, facilities and work locations for unauthorized objects or materials; make reports on incidents.Operate manually or electronically controlled security equipment to maintain controlled movement of inmates, staff and the public.Conduct inmate counts; perform searches of inmates and living quarters for contraband; enforce institutional rules and regulations.Prepare written documentation and reports concerning inmate behavior, status and movement.Participate on escape and apprehension teams; respond to riots and fires.Level Descriptors Correctional Officer : Basic level; assigned as cadets receiving formal and on‑the‑job training in security and custody duties and policies.Corporal : Career level; assigned full‑performance responsibilities providing security and control of inmates, interpreting and executing post orders.Education and Experience Minimum age 20 years.At least 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university, or a high‑school diploma or GED equivalent plus completion of a training course approved by the Department.For Corporals: one year of experience in correctional or security work for a governmental or private corrections agency.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Fundamental English usage, basic math, reporting writing.Use and care of firearms, proper restraint methods and techniques, self‑defense methods.Discipline objectives for inmates under restraint; psychology of inmate behavior.Evaluate situations, adopt effective actions, act quickly in emergencies.Follow oral and written instructions; gather and organize facts; write clear, concise reports.Communicate effectively; maintain effective working relationships.Maintain firearm proficiency; assess and manage conflicts within the inmate population.Special Requirements Satisfactory completion of minimum testing or professional evaluation through Human Capital Management.Satisfactory completion of pre‑employment and annual physical examinations.Valid driver's license at time of appointment.Subject to drug testing.Willing and able to work any assigned shift or day of the week and additional shifts as required.May be designated a peace officer subject to related training and screening requirements.Must meet physical conditioning, self‑defense tactics, and chemical spray training requirements.Disqualifications: convictions or allegations listed in the job posting (sexual offender registration, moral turpitude, non‑violent felonies, domestic violence misdemeanors, dishonorable discharge).Some positions are safety‑sensitive as defined by state law.Equal Opportunity Employment The State of Oklahoma is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of genetic information, race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin or disability.#J-18808-Ljbffr
