Legal Assistant - Estate Planning & Medicaid Applications

About the Role

Ozarks Elder Law is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support our paralegal staff with document management and preparation for Medicaid applications. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in estate planning or elder law who enjoys detail-oriented, client-focused work.

Key Responsibilities

• Support a paralegal in the preparation, organization, and processing of Medicaid applications

• Search for, gather, and track required client documents (financial records, medical records, asset documentation, etc.)

• Maintain accurate document tracking logs to ensure application deadlines are met

• Prepare, organize, and copy documents for submission to the Family Support Division (FSD) and other agencies

• Assist with document review to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to filing

• Maintain organized client files, both physical and digital

• Communicate with clients, financial institutions, and healthcare providers to request outstanding documentation

• Provide general administrative support to the estate planning and Medicaid teams as needed

Requirements:

Required:

• Previous experience as a Legal Assistant for an attorney or a law office

• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail

• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and track document status across several client files simultaneously

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Preferred:

• Prior experience working in a law office setting

• Familiarity with Missouri Medicaid/FSD application requirements and procedures

• Experience with legal practice management or document management software
