Job Description

The Fire Prevention & Protection Specialist is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the fire prevention and protection assets across assigned PCG locations. This role partners closely with site leadership, operations, engineering, and corporate EHS to ensure compliance with applicable company standards and regulatory requirements while actively driving a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture. The Fire Prevention & Protection Specialist provides hands-on operational support, conducts field assessments, contractor management, and leads site-level and group-level EHS improvement initiatives.

Additional Information:

This role is not remote/hybrid. This role will report to Sherwin-Williams Global Headquarters located at 1 Sherwin Way, Cleveland, OH 44113 and will have at least 10% travel.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.

Responsibilities

  1. Fire Systems
    1. Develop and maintain list of existing life safety systems and equipment (i.e. fire suppression and alarm system) in PCG locations.
    2. Support PCG locations with identifying gaps in the fire suppression systems and fire alarm system, help identify contractors to address those gaps. Maintain records.
    3. Manage inspection, testing & maintenance of Sherwin-Williams life safety systems and equipment.
    4. Ensure compliance with applicable building & fire codes (i.e. NFPA, IFC, IBC etc.).
  1. Open Action Management
    1. Manage Sherwin-Williams' EHS Software (i.e. CARES & Maintenance Connection, etc.) programs for record-keeping.
    2. Create actions for identified gaps in Action tracking software and ensure timely close-out.
    3. Support sites with identifying risk reduction steps and close open actions, coordinate with corp. subject matter experts to find the right solution and close action.
    4. Initiate capital request using company systems, including supporting documents, get approvals and ensure protect completion.
  2. Training development
    1. Develop EHS training topics for fire prevention and protection.
    2. Focus on grounding & bonding systems, inspection and correct use during solvent operations.
    3. Develop a system to ensure managers understand how to use fire systems and confirm all current fire protection systems are operational and in-compliance.
    4. Understand and apply Corp. standards and requirements related to life safety system and equipment.
  3. Technology Management
    1. Maintain general knowledge of Company-wide systems at both corporate and business unit levels.
    2. Develop technical knowledge of Fire system, Engineering system and Preventative Maintenance system (Maintenance Connection), Payment system COUPA, CARES, CONCUR.
  1. Contractor Management
    1. Identify local contractors for PCG locations to maintain and repair life safety system & equipment.
    2. Maintain good relations with local contractors.
    3. Review contractors when needed.
    4. Pay contractors as per company policy.
  1. Site Visits, Audits, and Continuous Improvement
    • Conduct site visits to assigned locations to observe operations, coach managers and employees, and assess EHS performance and compliance.
    • Identify gaps against company standards and regulatory requirements, and clearly document findings, risks, and recommended actions.
    • Provide EHS support for PCG projects such as facility relocations, expansions, decommissioning activities, and significant process or layout changes.
    • Assist in other defined EHS projects.

  • Knowledge of the laws, regulations and principles pertaining to fire engineering.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future (e.g., OPT, CPT, H1B, EB-1,etc.)
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted drivers license.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Must have three (3) years of experience using Microsoft Office products (e.g Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and/or Outlook).
  • Must have three (3) years of technical experience in managing, maintaining and providing technical support on fire systems.
  • Must be willing to travel as required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental, Health and Safety or Fire Sciences.
  • Have experience with the AutoCAD tool.
  • Have NICET certification - Fire Protection/Building Systems
