The Wyatt Detention Facility is seeking men and women of good moral character to participate in its next Correctional Officers' Academy. Recruits who successfully complete the Training Academy will be eligible for full-time Correctional Officer positions at the Wyatt Detention Facility. Shift and days off will vary.Under general supervision, performs corrections work of moderate difficulty ensuring the welfare of detainees and maintaining security, control, and custody in a direct supervision jail, and performs related work as required.RESPONSIBILITIESMaintains security of assigned area of responsibility by observing and controlling detainee behavior, being mindful of detainee classification levels, enforcing discipline and reporting observationInspects the living conditions within the housing units for compliance with sanitation objectivesConducts checks of detainee housing and cell searches for detainee census and detection of contrabandControls, operates, and inspects life safety equipment, electronic safety and surveillance equipment, and door control systemsMonitors visitors entering and exiting the facilityPerforms booking, identification, and records maintenance proceduresParticipates in evacuation procedures and maintains security in emergenciesProvides information to detainees and the public regarding corrections facility rules and regulationsMaintains security of prisoners transported and provides a safe environment for surrounding areasProvides escort services within the facilityProvides transport services and security of detainees to various locationsPhysically restrains detainees with handcuffs, and leg irons, when neededTestifies in court proceedings, as requiredMay provide on-the-job training for new recruitsAnnual firearms re-qualification, proficiency in the use of firearmsMay be required to carry/use firearmsMust adhere to the policies and regulations outlined in the Employee Handbook and facility policiesDuring emergencies, may be required to work overtimeKNOWLEDGE REQUIRESConsiderable Knowledge of Interpersonal communicationsConsiderable Knowledge of Speaking, reading and communication of the English languageSome knowledge in Criminal justice system desirableSome knowledge in Security practices and procedures used in a direct supervision jail desirableSome knowledge in Varied social, economic, and cultural background desirableSome knowledge in Report preparation, record-keeping, and report writing desirableQUALIFICATIONSMaintaining security, control, and custody of detaineesResponding to emergencies quickly, calmly, and decisivelyObserving situations and recalling factsInteracting with people of varied social, economic, and cultural backgroundsCommunicating effectively, both orally and in writingEstablishing and maintaining effective working relationships with othersListening effectivelyKeeping records and preparing reportsPerforming defensive tactics which require quick reflexes, agility, coordination, and strengthIdentifying normal and abnormal patterns in behaviorEmployment is contingent upon passing a background check with no Felonies and verifying no disqualifying criminal historyNo face, neck or hand tattoosMust be able to work any shiftMust be able to work double shiftsHigh school diploma or G.E.D. certificateLICENSE & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIREDPossession of an active driver's license is requiredAuthorization to work in the United States with proof of verificationSocial Security cardBirth certificate or U.S. PassportHigh school diploma or GEDSUPERVISORY CONTROLThis position reports directly to the Sergeant, Lieutenant, or CaptainNo other positions report to this positionGUIDELINESDonald W.
