Security Technology System Technician

Position is responsible for performing work related to maintenance, programming, and installation of electronic security devices, audio/visual and sound systems, and closed-circuit television systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs all tasks associated with maintenance and installation of electronic security devices
  • Makes identification badges for all employees
  • Set up audio/visual and sound systems
  • Respond to alarm conditions when notified by the Dispatch or through SchoolDude
  • Tests smoke and heat sensors, dual technology motion detectors, photoelectric motion detectors, magnetic door contacts, system control panels and digital communications
  • Repairs and installs all security devices with the system
  • Maintains the data base for the alarm systems and programming new alarm systems and new closed-circuit television systems
  • Adheres to school system rules and administrative procedures; Board Policies, and State, and Federal rules and regulations

Demonstrates ability to climb ladders and to work in confined spaces above and below ground.

Must have the ability to stand for extended period of time and be able to bed, stoop, and reach overhead.

Must exhibit dexterity to operate equipment.

Must be able to see and read printed material with or without vision aids.

Must be able to hear and understand speech at normal levels.

Must be able to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.

Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Must have the physical agility to lift at least 50 pounds.

Duties are normally performed inside and outside in a workshop or building environment. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud but usually moderate.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED Certificate equivalent
  • Must have a valid Alabama's Driver's License
  • Should have secondary or higher training to include electronic repair and maintenance, blue print, and schematic reading, control wiring, and electronic theory.
  • Must have at least five years' experience in access control systems, security design, and installation.
  • Thorough knowledge of security systems components and state of the art technology as related to intrusion detection
  • Certified at least at Level I for alarm technician and intrusion detection
  • Must have at least five years' experience working with audio/visual and sound system set-up, closed circuit television installation and maintenance
  • Must have at least five years' experience programming and certification on Micro Key Security Systems
  • Capable of troubleshooting and repairing components in the system.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
