Job Summary Reports to Manager of Emergency Department. The Emergency Department Paramedic is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team that ensures patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high‑quality, safe patient care. The paramedic supports treatment in the hospital emergency department (ED), working under the direction of the physician and RN to implement the plan of care and team goals. The scope of practice is governed by the Georgia Paramedic Scope of Practice and the Wellstar Paramedic Scope of Practice, and all ED Paramedics must hold a Georgia paramedic license and national registry certification.Work Shift Night (United States of America)Core Responsibilities Assists medical and nursing staff with the care and treatment of emergency patientsAssists in the intake process by greeting and interviewing patients and entering pertinent medical information into the computer systemPerforms and assists with diagnostic testing and procedures, including EKG, cardiac monitor placement, venipuncture, point‑of‑care testing, wound care, orthopedic device application, and other scope‑of‑practice dutiesPerforms functions delegated by the RN:Initiate intravenous accessAdminister oral, IM, and selected IV medicationsPerform glucose monitoringPerform ISTAT testingTransport patients to the ICU and monitor critical patientsAssist with patient flow in the EDPerform command center and monitor technician dutiesReceive EMS patients into the ED and assist with initial triage and assessmentEducate patients and familiesRespond to Trauma Alert, Code Fast, and STEMI alerts as assignedEnsure patient‑ready rooms, restock supplies, and maintain cleanliness in line with infection control policiesTransport patients as requested by the RN and perform other duties as assignedComply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conductRequired Minimum Education High School Diploma, General, or GED, General, or Accredited Program (Other – Preferred)Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s) ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I – ACLS InstructorBLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support InstructorPALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support or ARC‑PALS – American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS‑I – PALS InstructorPARA – ParamedicRequired Minimum Experience Completion of an accredited paramedic program and associated clinical hours.
