Penn, Independence, KS 67301, for the position of Police Officer I within the Police Department.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInvestigate and prepare reports of complaints and accidents.Issue citations and make arrests.Respond to crime, accident, and emergency scenes as dispatched.Serve subpoenas and warrants; control traffic and crowds.Appear in court; book and transport prisoners.Take fingerprints and perform additional duties as assigned.QualificationsAbility to learn departmental policies, rules, instruction, laws, and police literature.Ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, reasonable course of action.Ability to write clear and accurate reports.Willingness to complete extensive training and maintain physical agility.Physical agility and ability to learn the use and care of automobile and firearms.Education and ExperienceCompletion of high school or GED required; associates degree preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications preferred. Two years of experience in law enforcement preferred.Special RequirementsA current Kansas driver's license.Must be 21 years of age.Must possess provisional certification and complete Basic Recruit Training with the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center within one year after initial employment.Must complete any advanced training as assigned and maintain KLETC certification.Must be available to work nights, overtime, in shifts, and weekends.Physical RequirementsModerate to occasionally intense physical effort is required.
