Corrections Officer

Jackson County is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list to fill future Full Time and Limited Term Corrections Officer positions. This is a specialized non‑law enforcement position in the Corrections Division of the Sheriff's Office. Employees work in close proximity to moderate supervision, maintaining security in a jail facility. Persons in this position operate under rigid state and municipal rules and regulations in the care of inmates and maintenance of safety and security within the jail system. Other duties must be performed as assigned by the Jail Administrator, Chief Deputy Sheriff, or Sheriff.Full Time vs Limited Term PositionsFull Time Positions are benefited. Limited Term Positions are not benefited.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintains inmate recordsMaintains jail securitySearches inmates and cells for contraband articlesMonitors conduct and behavior of inmates to prevent disturbances and escapesEscorts inmates to and from visiting roomServes meals and distributes commissary items to prisonersReceives inmates to the county jail and safeguards their possessions including currency; processes inmates per booking proceduresCares for and ensures the safety of all inmatesAppears in court and testifies as witnessMonitors activities of Electronic Monitoring or Huber Law participantsReceives and records fines and bail moneyActs courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times with the public, public officials, clients, service vendors, inmates, peer employees, all county related departments, and supervisorsCompletes reports and required documentation per department policy in an accurate and timely mannerMaintains up‑to‑date job knowledge, certifications, licenses and registrations;
