Overview The McPherson Police Department is seeking highly motivated people, with a desire to serve our community as full‑time Police Patrol Officers. Serving as Police Patrol Officer is challenging but will provide you with many opportunities for professional growth. The McPherson Police Department has a wide range of opportunities for advancement and specialization within the Patrol, Operations, and Administrations Bureaus to serve, including Investigations, Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, Bike Patrol, Honor/Color Guard Team, Critical Incident Stress Management/Peer Support Team, Firearms Instruction, Defensive Tactics Instruction, D.A.R.E. Officer, School Resource Officer, and Social Media Team.Shift & Schedule Patrol Officers work 12‑hour shifts with rotating weekends off. We have day and evening shifts with overlap. Officers rotate from day shift to night shift every 4 months.Location The City of McPherson is centrally located in the United States and within the State of Kansas, at the intersection of I‑135 and US‑56.Responsibilities Selected officers will enforce local, state, and federal laws, investigate crimes, enforce traffic regulations, investigate traffic collisions, and assist the public.Qualifications U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age, and a high school diploma or equivalent (college degree preferred).Clean criminal record and vision correctable to 20/20.Pass a written test, physical agility test, background investigation, oral interview, and additional conditional job testing.Work schedule requires weekends, holidays, rotating shift work, overtime, and court appearances.Residency within 35 miles of the McPherson City Limits must be established within six months of hire.No Brady/Giglio material in background.Salary Information Entry Level: $23.04 per hour (actual starting rate depends on experience).
