The Position

OPEN & PROMOTIONAL EXAMINATION - SIX MONTHS PROBATIONARY PERIOD

This current recruitment is for Glendale Water & Power - Water Engineering Division. Candidates who are placed on this eligible list may be considered and utilized by other Divisions/Departments within the City.

Under general direction, these classifications perform difficult or complex professional engineering design work and supervise the work of a water service planning or design group of the Glendale Water & Power, Water Engineering Division.

Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.

Manages major projects involving preparation and supervision of designs, specifications, plans, estimates, and reports involved in the construction and operation of a wide variety of civil engineering work in water utility systems.

Reviews and supervises checking of plans, specifications and computations submitted in connection with water service planning, capital improvement projects, and applications for building permits and excavation permits. Ensure conformance with GWP's current water standards and other matters governed by municipal ordinances.

Supervises and assists in checking plans, specifications and computations submitted in connection with applications for private developments.

Confers with other departments, consultants, contractors, and the general public as to the requirements offset by GWP's standards and specifications.

Prepares project feasibility studies and work related technical research, reports and correspondence.

Supervises employees of a lower classification in assigned engineering tasks. Assumes personal responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.

May have the opportunity to participate in related divisional cross-training efforts.

Experience and qualifications gained in this cross training may apply towards promotional opportunities and transfers.

Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.

Minimum Requirements

An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Experience
Two years professional engineering experience in Civil Engineering work, including one year in water engineering.
Experience in public utilities is highly desirable.

Education/Training
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

License(s)/Certification(s)
Registration as a Civil Engineer with the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists (previously known as the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors).

Transportation
Valid Class C California driver's license.

Selection Process

EVALUATION OF APPLICATION: Submitted Application will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process.
Candidates must pass each exam component with a minimum score of 70.00% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weight of 100%) To evaluate the applicant's experience, education, and general background for the position.

TIME AND PLACE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED. Evaluations will be based on the candidate's education and experience relevant to the position. Examinations will assess evaluate the candidate's education, experience, knowledge and skills related to the job. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the examination components or their weighting. If changes are necessary, candidates will be informed of the specific examination components and their weight before the examination is administered. The selected candidate will undergo a background check, including Livescan fingerprinting.
