Firefighter II

Under general supervision, performs fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency rescue, and basic medical duties to protect life and property. Utilizes various tools and power equipment in rescue operations and maintains county fire equipment, vehicles, and apparatus.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThis class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.Performs incident command functions at fire and emergency scenes; assumes command until relieved by superior officer; assesses conditions and determines strategy and techniques.Performs general firefighting work in the prevention, control, and suppression of structural and non-structural fires, and skilled Emergency Medical Technician lifesaving and technical emergency services work in the field.Responds to non-emergency and emergency incidents; renders emergency medical assistance and first aid services while on-scene; performs search and rescue for trapped or injured persons; operates fire rescue equipment; and prepares reports regarding emergency incidents as assigned.Participates in cleaning and maintaining facilities, grounds, equipment, and apparatus; ensures that appropriate conditions are maintained at assigned facility; and ensures that all equipment and apparatus is in a constant state of readiness for emergency call.Organization Relationship/AuthorityThis position reports to the Chester County Emergency Services Director or designee and has limited supervisory responsibilities.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
