Job DescriptionThe Firefighter performs firefighting and fire-prevention activities to protect life and property. Assists other personnel in controlling fire scenes or performing other specialized activities as assigned. Ensure the station, apparatus, and equipment are always ready. Trains daily while on duty to ensure skills are superior to the expectations of our citizens. Assist other Florence County Fire Rescue bureaus as needed to enhance collaboration and improve overall emergency response effectiveness. Promotes a professional and honorable appearance in our community.Essential FunctionsResponds to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, accidents, and hazardous situations.Suppress and extinguish fires using appropriate techniques and equipment.Perform search-and-rescue operations in dangerous, time-sensitive environments.Provide emergency medical care, including CPR, first aid, and basic life support.Operate around fire apparatus, including engines, ladder trucks, and other support vehicles.Inspect buildings and enforce fire safety codes and regulations.Clean and maintain firefighting equipment and ensure operational readiness.Complete thorough and accurate incident reports.Participate in ongoing training, drills, and community outreach programs.Maintains physical fitness that ensures success with job demands, annual stress test, and annual agility test.Non-Essential FunctionsPerforms all other related duties as required by the Fire Chief.Other manual labor activities such as hydrant maintenance, hose testing, yard maintenance, sweeping, and mopping will be required.Qualifications: Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GEDMust be at least 18 years of age.Must have a valid SC Driver's License with a good driving record.CertificationsMedical First ResponderNFPA Firefighter 1PreferredNFPA Firefighter 2 (must achieve to maintain employment)Incident CommandPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
