Crime Analyst
Salary: $25.06/hr.
Systematically collects, categorizes, analyzes and disseminates information on crime patterns, locations, victims, and suspects. Incorporates complex research methodologies, statistical analysis, and mapping strategies to perform data reviews and analysis of crime reports. Interprets crime patterns and trends. Disseminates information and makes recommendations related to possible suspects, potential crimes, locations of future crimes, and forecasting of future criminal events. Establish methods for other employees to readily obtain relevant crime information, reports, and maps in order to support decision-making. Conducts follow-up analysis on the effectiveness of operations.
General supervision is provided by a Police Lieutenant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.
- Reads, interprets and summarizes offense and arrest reports along with other data to obtain information about crimes committed.
- Determines criminal association and patterns of criminal activity relating to specific offenders, groups of offenders, victims, or locations.
- Conducts background research on people, places, and criminal methods; collects, compiles and analyzes intelligence data; and maintains records and intelligence files to facilitate long-term analysis.
- Conducts analysis that makes information into intelligence useful to decision makers.
- Ensures usable intelligence is regularly communicated to officers and supervisors through clear and concise regular reports and ensures this intelligence is readily accessible by computer 24 hours a day.
- Develops and prepare charts, graphs, maps, bulletins and related materials in order to track and present findings related to criminal activity.
- Communicates and exchanges criminal activities reports, trends and patterns with other analysts throughout the department and other law enforcement agencies.
- Serves on a variety of boards and committees. Prepares and presents multiple administrative reports and other necessary correspondence.
- Interacts and communicates with Police personnel, other City employees and the community on crime analysis/research issues; and responds to ad-hoc requests for data, information and various reports.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Manage requests from officers for intelligence and background research on suspects.
- Conduct follow-up analysis in order to determine effectiveness of operations.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains awareness of new developments in the field of crime analysis; and incorporates new developments as appropriate into programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education and Experience
Requires a Bachelor's degree with preferred fields of study: criminal justice, political science, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science or geographic information systems.
No experience required, however, prefer some experience as a crime analyst in a police department with a college degree.

Requires a High School diploma or GED.
Requires four (4) years of experience as a crime analyst in a police department/law enforcement
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Work Schedule
- Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m., to 5:00 p.m. or approved variation of 40-hour work week.

TMRS is a qualified tax-deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven (7) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City provides 2-to-1 matching contributions. Other benefits include Social Security, Tax Saver Program (Section 125 Flexible Spending Account), Deferred Compensation Plans, Direct Deposit, Paid Holidays, Paid Vacation, Sick Leave and Personal Leave.
