Black River Systems Company, a small, established research-oriented engineering firm headquartered in Utica, NY, is seeking an Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) to support the company's industrial security program in compliance with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual. This role supports personnel, physical, and information security requirements for classified contracts and assists with maintaining facility clearance (FCL) compliance.Position ResponsibilitiesSupport administration of the security program in accordance with 32CFR Part117 (NISPOM Rule)Process personnel security clearances (e.g. onboarding, e‑QIP/NBIS, indoctrinations, debriefings)Maintain security records and systems (e.g., DISS/NBIS)Conduct security briefings and annual trainingAssist with DDForm254 review and contract security guidance implementationInvestigate and report security incidents and violationsSupport DCSA security reviews, audits, and annual self‑inspectionsCoordinate safeguarding of classified information and CUIPartner with ISSO/ISSM on system security activities aligned to the Risk Management Framework, DCSA Assessment and Authorization Process Manual, and Intelligence Community Directive503 (as applicable)Position RequirementsBachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment where multiple projects are being developed and deployed simultaneously.Solid communication, documentation, and collaborative/teamwork skills.Coordinating with Information Systems Security Officer to ensure all standards and best practices are implemented in systems.Travel to satellite offices to help audit and assist with security infrastructure, or to provide onsite support for connected office software/hardware roll‑outs.US citizenship is required, as well as the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.Possess or have the ability to obtain Security+ certification.Desired ExperienceFamiliarity with 32CFR117 requirements and with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) under 32CFR117 and ICD503.Familiarity and experience with NIST Special Publication800‑171 requirements.Experience on Linux and Windows systems, as well as in local and wide area network environment security management and monitoring.Black River Systems is a growing employee‑owned company committed to advancing our employees' quality of life on the job.
