Crossing Guard 2026‑2027 (260000J6)Job OverviewThe Crossing Guard provides assistance to children and other pedestrians in crossing specified streets along school routes and performs related work as required. The incumbent is assigned to locations near schools or along adjacent streets to protect children from traffic when crossing and to present a safety enforcement presence to passing motorists.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSafetyAssemble children and other pedestrians behind curb lines, awaiting traffic gaps or signal changesInterrupt traffic and escort pedestrians into the street allowing them to cross safelyInstruct children in proper procedures for safe street crossingDirect traffic movement and warn of hazards, using signs and hand signalsStop traffic as necessaryCommunicationReport students who do not adhere to safe street crossing procedures to appropriate school officialsCommunicate traffic and crossing rules and other information to students and adultsQualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.Additional InformationMaintain emotional control under stress. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions and requires sufficient physical strength, agility and dexterity to perform all essential tasks.
