Fire Suppression Hood Technician

The Fire Suppression Hood Technician is capable of independently performing core technical responsibilities related to portables, kitchen hood systems, and fire protection equipment. This role is responsible for completing standard inspections, maintenance, and service work without direct supervision while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and company standards. The technician is expected to demonstrate strong technical competency, reliability, and customer service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Install, service, or upgrade kitchen suppression systems in commercial and residential buildings.
- Test and repair systems already in place.
- Service, inspect, recharge, maintain, or test portable fire extinguishers.
- Must be flexible with scheduling requirements that occasionally will require early morning, evening, weekend and/or out-of-town assignments.
- Perform inspections to ensure suppression systems are installed according to code.
- Complete detailed inspection reports, documenting any issues.
- Report results of work completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Inspect and maintain the truck and all related equipment, putting in repair requests as necessary to maintain safe operation.
- Work in a safe manner as outlined by company safety procedures including driver safety and personal protective equipment.
- Respond to emergency service calls.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace.
- Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
- Must have a clean driving record.
- Must be flexible with scheduling requirements.
- Requires the ability to display knowledge of principles and practices of fire safety.
- Requires the ability to interpret, apply, and explain applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
- Requires the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Requires the ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools, ladders, medium equipment and machinery.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
Education/Qualifications:
- 2 + years of experience with commercial and residential fire suppression systems required.
- Highly prefer a California Fire Extinguisher Certificate of Registration issued by CAL FIRE Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).
- Experience with Ansul, Pyrochem, Amerex, Buckeye and Kiddie systems highly preferred.
- NICET Level I or above preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
- Strong understanding of portable fire protection equipment and applicable codes.
- Must have a clean driving record and active driver's license (if driving role).
Other Duties:
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
- Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
- Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work for extended periods.
Pay Range:
- $30 to $40 hourly DOE
