Job Description Summary Probation Officer II – lead officer- Reports to Probation Officer III- Lead training and orientation for new officers- Mentor and supervise performance development of officers- Perform duties of a probation officer and coordinate in‑service education and special projects- May be assigned to Court or Field Services (required transfer at short notice)- Designated as a safety‑sensitive position- Must demonstrate competency in defensive tactics and physical techniques- Salary range: $27.71 – $30.48 per hourResponsibilities Plan and develop new officer training; coordinate orientation of new officersMentor and supervise officers to achieve competency levelsCoordinate in‑service education, special projects, and committeesServe as a resource for officers to resolve caseload issuesPrepare and present present‑sentence reports and pre‑disposition recommendations to courtsConduct home, workplace, school, and treatment facility visits; conduct legally authorized searchesMaintain written and electronic records of activities, observations, and contactsMediate and resolve complaints between provider agencies and clientsAssist with development of performance measures and policy implementationTestify in court as requiredMinimum Qualifications Minimum age 21; United States citizen or lawful permanent residentBachelor's degree in behavioral science or related fieldThree years of post‑graduate experience as a probation officer or higher‑level positionValid driver's licenseSuccessful completion of background/reference checks, interviews, polygraph, drug testing, and pre‑employment psychological examComplete 40‑hour Defensive Tactics Training Academy within 120 days of employmentMaintain certification from Defensive Tactics Training Academy and Probation Certification Academy (if assigned) within 12 monthsComplete eight hours of defensive tactics refresher training annuallyMaintain medical exam required by Corrections Officer Retirement PlanAct as substitute supervisor when needed; lead and monitor a group of probation and/or surveillance officersPreferred Qualifications Bilingual in English and SpanishExperience serving as a lead, mentor, and/or trainer within a probation environmentRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of psychology, social sciences, and investigative techniquesSkill in interviewing, counseling, observation, and data collectionAbility to present recommendations on sentencing and probationary terms in courtOperational proficiency with computers, telephones, radios, handcuffs, body armor, and related equipmentStrong oral and written communication skills with diverse populationsPhysical/Sensory Requirements Good physical strength and condition for restraining techniques and defensive tacticsLifting and carrying up to 75 pounds; bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and stooping as neededAbility to work in extreme weather conditions and perform administrative duties in an office environmentBenefits Corrections Officer Retirement Plan (CORP)15 paid vacation days, 12 holidays, 15 days of sick leave (56 hours accrued annually after anniversary, rollover allowed)12 weeks of 100% paid parental leaveEmployer‑paid short‑term disabilityTuition reimbursement up to $5,250 per yearHealth and wellness discount programMental and behavioral health benefitsPaid training and advancement opportunitiesFree access to Court GymEqual Employment Opportunity Statement We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
