Overview City Rise Utility- Traffic Control Technician: BakersfieldHourly / Non-Exempt / Full TimeSalary Range: $39.62 /hrCity Rise Utility Traffic ControlWe service all Northern & Central California from multiple locations. At City Rise Utility Traffic Control, we provide high quality traffic control safety services for utility contractors, such as Flagging traffic through a work site, Lane Closures to divert traffic, or Detouring traffic to reduce traffic congestion and prevent accidents. We serve the needs of varied industries and are focused on maintaining a safe work environment for utility crews, our employees, and the public.BRIEF POSITION SUMMARYCity Rise Utility Traffic Control employees are members of the IBEW Union. Union membership is required (enrollment facilitation available). The Traffic Control Technician works under the direction of a contractor to identify the various needs and or phases of a job. He or she is involved in providing onsite leadership of the work crew to successfully complete a job. The Technician will be tasked to assess his or her work crew's performance and to provide feedback to Operations Management. The Technician specializes in the following: traffic plan review, traffic control equipment installation (various setups), flagging setups, flagger control, and jobsite supervision.A Traffic Technician has the responsibility to protect the lives of our customers, motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and themselves on the roadway.Responsibilities Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functionsOversee work zone set up, maintenance and tear downMeet or exceed customer, state, federal and company expectationsImplement traffic control setups per MUTCD standard and applicable traffic plansWork with management, and agencies to make adjustments to work zone requirements as neededProvide clear communication and direction to the customer and general public moving or traveling near or around the work zoneDrive company trucks. Deliver equipmentTow and operate towable equipmentKeep equipment well organized and in working orderDevelop superior knowledge of work zone setup and professional traffic control responsibilitiesProvide the highest level of customer service to all customers. This includes on-time arrival and well managed work zonesComplete daily Job Hazard Analysis with crew and conduct crew tailgate meetingsProvide crew performance feedback to Operations Management. Conduct evaluations as neededProvide detailed safety reports on all safety incidents and or near missesOther duties as assignedQualifications Must have valid driver's license for at least 3 years with a clean driving recordCurrent IBEW membership w/Traffic Tech classification requiredAbility to read and understand traffic control plansCan establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and othersCan work independently with minimum supervision while prioritizing workloads to meet deadlinesStrong interpersonal skills and professional demeanorWork in high-volume outdoor locations with multiple interruptions throughout the dayStrong conflict resolution techniquesStrong leadership skillsStrong customer service skillsExcellent multitasking, problem solving, and organizational skillsReliable Transportation with ability to commute throughout Northern CaliforniaEducation and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent preferred2+ years in an equivalent Traffic Control roleOSHA 10 CertificationOSHA 30 CertificationFirst Aid/CPR Certification requiredProficient knowledge of the Cal Trans MUTCDATSSA Flagger Certification requiredTCT certification by ATSSA preferredTCS certification by ATSSA preferredPhysical Demands Frequent lifting of heavy objects, up to 50 lbsLift, carry, push, pull and assemble traffic control materials in the proper order to manage work zone trafficStand for long periods of time in various weather conditions, and different times of day/nightVarious noise decibel levelsStooping for prolonged periods of timeDexterity in the use of hand and fingersReaching, sitting, bending, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing and Vision (up close, at a distance, along the periphery)Language Skills English- read and write fluentlyWork Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving vehicles and pedestrian traffic and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and loud noises. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high temperatures.
