About Tangled BankTangled Bank Conservation's mission is to bring cutting‑edge genomics tools to wildlife and habitat managers, make conservation insights more efficient, provide capacity to conservation efforts through planning and field work, and, above all, help imperiled species as quickly as possible. Our work includes species detection and recovery, habitat management and restoration, biodiversity monitoring, and assessing genetic health and diversity at the population level.Job DescriptionTangled Bank Conservation is seeking a Wildlife Conservation Technician based in Asheville, NC. The position supports field‑based conservation projects across the southeastern United States. Projects vary seasonally and include biodiversity surveys (eDNA sampling, camera trap setup, visual surveys), southern Appalachian mountain bog habitat restoration, rare species surveys (bog turtles, Hickory Nut Gorge green salamanders), wetland habitat assessments, data management, report writing, project planning, and potential genetics lab work.ResponsibilitiesThe role requires extensive travel throughout the year – ranging from several weeks to up to three months – with work vehicles provided. Candidates will routinely interact with private landowners, project partners, and clients while working outdoors in varied weather conditions and engaging in moderate physical activity up to 8 miles of hiking, wetland wading, operating power tools, and lifting over 50 lbs.RequirementsBachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.Willingness to travel extensively, potentially for months at a time, across multiple states, with occasional weekend work.Capable of moderate physical activity, including hiking up to 8 miles in a day, wading in deep wetlands, operating power tools such as a brush cutter and chainsaw, and lifting 50+ lbs.Comfortable working in proximity to potentially hazardous wildlife, including stinging insects, venomous snakes, and alligators.Ability to work independently and in teams of two, collaborating closely with one other person for extended periods in the field.Comfortable interacting professionally with private landowners, clients, and project partners and representing the organization in a positive and respectful manner.Basic understanding of GPS and mapping tools for site navigation and data collection.Strong attention to detail in regards to accurate data collection and organization.Strong organizational and communication skills.Ability to follow written protocols.Preferred QualificationsTechnical writing.Basic GIS capabilities.Intimate familiarity with herpetofaunal sampling methods.Working knowledge of species and ecosystems found in the southeastern U.S.Position DetailsTemporary employee with an expected 40‑hour work week.Three‑month position with the possibility of extension.Start date: May 2026.Compensation: $2,500–$3,000 per month depending on experience.This position is open until filled.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementTangled Bank Conservation is an equal‑opportunity employer.
