Dispatcher
We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Overnight Dispatcher / Yard Support to help maintain smooth overnight operations at our Hollins Ferry location. This role will be responsible for supporting dispatch functions, monitoring yard activity, assisting drivers, and moving trucks or equipment within the yard as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, good judgment, the ability to work independently overnight, and experience operating or moving commercial vehicles in a yard setting. This position will serve as an important point of contact for drivers and operations during overnight hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispatch & Driver Support
- Assist with overnight dispatch operations and driver communication.
- Monitor driver arrivals, departures, and scheduled moves.
- Provide drivers with necessary paperwork, instructions, and updates.
- Communicate delays, issues, or concerns to management as needed.
- Help ensure overnight operations continue to flow efficiently and safely.
- Maintain accurate records of driver activity, equipment movement, and any operational updates.
- Yard & Equipment Support
- Move trucks, trailers, or equipment within the yard as needed.
- Assist with positioning equipment to support daily operational needs.
- Ensure yard movement is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Monitor the yard for safety concerns, equipment issues, or irregular activity.
- Report damaged equipment, mechanical concerns, or safety hazards promptly.
- Operational Coordination
- Support communication between drivers, dispatch, warehouse, and management.
- Help prepare the operation for the next shift by ensuring equipment and paperwork are organized.
- Follow established procedures for overnight coverage, paperwork distribution, and escalation of urgent issues.
- Assist with basic administrative or operational tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Prior dispatch, transportation, warehouse, yard jockey, or logistics experience preferred. CDL A preferred but not required. Experience moving tractors/trailers or commercial vehicles in a yard setting strongly preferred. Ability to work overnight hours with limited supervision. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment. Basic computer skills and ability to document updates accurately. Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to follow company procedures.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to work overnight in both office and yard environments. Ability to safely enter, exit, and operate commercial vehicles or yard equipment as needed. Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions when assisting in the yard. Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the yard and office as required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who can balance dispatch responsibilities with hands-on yard support. They are dependable, safety-conscious, comfortable communicating with drivers, and able to take initiative during overnight hours. This person should be able to keep operations moving, identify issues early, and escalate concerns when needed.
