Crossing Guard Position

New Lenox School District 122 is looking to hire crossing guards for the 2024/2025 school year. Position title: crossing guard. Report to: principals, director of organizational planning and facilities. Benefits: hourly starting pay $16.00 per hour. Total work days 176 hours determined by location. Benefits: none.

Summary: To direct students when it is safe to cross the street and when they should wait.

Qualifications: Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent. Present evidence of a physical exam to determine "fit for duty", evidence of being free from communicable disease (TB), and submit to a criminal background check.

Physical demands: Standing for 80-90% of the time and walking 10-20% of the time for a period of up to 30 minutes. Must be able to navigate street crossing areas which may include concrete curbs. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to work in inclement weather conditions such as wind, rain, snow, ice, sun, heat, etc.

Essential duties and responsibilities: Ability to implement proper procedures for safely crossing streets. Ability to interact with children and families in a positive manner. Ability to report safety concerns to appropriate authority. Evaluation: Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
