Code Enforcement Officer/Permit Technician
Job Description
The Code Enforcement Officer/Permit Technician performs a variety of inspection and municipal code enforcement duties with particular emphasis in achieving compliance with all provisions of the zoning ordinance, and City Code. Under general supervision, investigates and enforces the municipal code in areas of public welfare, safety, public nuisance, sanitation and health, building, housing, zoning and other ordinances; initiates enforcement action; acts as a secondary/back-up Permit Processing Technician as-needed.
Examples of Duties:
- Conducts site visits to investigate complaints regarding code violations
- Identifies violations relating to a variety of codes and regulations
- Works with the public in a positive and cooperative manner to encourage voluntary compliance with codes
- Issues citations in accordance with applicable laws
- Process plans and permit applications for review
- Calculate plan check and permitting fees
- Schedule inspections
- Maintains accurate case files

Qualifications
Any combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance will be considered. Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; and two years of experience with frequent public interaction and enforcement activities.
License/Certification Possession of a valid California Driver License and a safe driving record is required.
Desired certifications (NOT required): Code Enforcement Officer Certification from the American Association of Code Enforcement (AACE) or California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO) P.C. 832 certification
