PositionThe current vacancy is within the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. This extra help position is a semi‑paraprofessional training classification intended to provide experience for persons considering a career in law enforcement. It is not intended for permanent employment. The position may work up to 900 hours in a fiscal year (July1–June30). No benefits are included.Salary$17.77–$22.68 per hour (approximate).ResponsibilitiesSupport field, records, major crimes, and custody operations by performing a variety of law enforcement clerical and semi‑paraprofessional work.File, maintain logs and worksheets; answer phones and direct calls; provide information; serve subpoenas; transport vehicles to and from locations; perform other duties as assigned.Ideal CandidateStrong desire to pursue a career in law enforcement.Knowledge and AbilityKnowledge of basic law enforcement procedures; motor vehicles; city and county streets and addresses; basic grammar and spelling; computer skills and word processing.Ability to interact and communicate effectively and courteously with the public, employees, and other agencies; answer telephones and provide information; read and write; read maps, find addresses, and serve subpoenas.Minimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or equivalent GED certificate.Experience as a Law Enforcement Explorer, a Department of Justice ROP student, or similar is encouraged but not required.Special RequirementsPossession of a valid California driver's license with an acceptable driving record according to the County's driving policy or ability to acquire one within 10 days of appointment.Uniform: upon initial hire the Sheriff's Office will issue a shirt, pants, jacket, and name tag; the applicant must provide footwear and belt and maintain the uniform in acceptable condition.
