Palmer ElementaryDate Available:ASAPClosing Date:When FilledThere are crossing guard positions available in the Palmerton Area School District.AM shift: 8:00-8:30 am PM shift: 2:50-3:20pmCompensation is $10/shiftApplicants must submit their application, Act 34 Criminal, Act 151 Child Abuse and Act 114 FBI Fingerprinting clearances.Position Summary:Responsible for providing maximum protection and assisting students in crossing the street going to and returning from the elementary buildings by directing traffic so that students may cross streets safelyQualifications:Education/Experience:High School Diploma or GED preferredMaintain valid PA driver's licenseSkills/Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of appropriate signals for the control of vehicular trafficThorough knowledge of traffic safety as it relates to the movement of pedestrians at an intersectionAbility to work independentlyAbility to follow a set scheduleAbility to effectively communicate with students, staff, administrators, and general publicAbility to comprehend and retain knowledge of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code as it relates to school crossings and school zonesAbility to recognize and communicate potentially dangerous traffic situations and hazards in the environmentAbility to coordinate the movement of traffic with the safe flow of student pedestrians by choosing appropriate times to step into the street to create gaps in trafficAbility to relate to student pedestrians and instruct them on safe methods of crossing the street by modeling appropriate street skills and behaviorAbility to prevent students from crossing the street in an unsafe manner or when traffic is movingPhysical: Ability to stand and walk outside in a variety of all types of weather conditions and environmental extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, humidity, rain, snow, sleet, hail, and air pollutionMust be able to stand, walk, stoop, bend, crouch, twist, turn, and reachVerbally direct students across the streetFunctions/Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function/duty/responsibility at acceptable standards. Palmer/Parkside Building PrincipalProtect the lives of school-age pedestriansDirect and control the movement of students at assigned intersectionsPatrol an assigned intersection, direct traffic to stop, and direct students across the street safelyStand in roadway with STOP paddle continuously raised to shoulder height to show that pedestrians are using the crosswalkPrevent students from crossing the street while traffic is movingDirect traffic at an assigned intersection when necessary to provide for the movement of school buses or to relieve temporary traffic congestionCollect appropriate information concerning operators of vehicles that fail to obey proper signals and/or devices at the intersection and in the school zoneReport violators of the Vehicle Code as it applies to school crossings and school zonesDirect traffic at an assigned intersection when necessary to provide for the movement of school buses or to relieve temporary traffic congestionCooperate, assist, and communicate timely, accurately, and effectively, maintaining a positive environment and positive communications with fellow employees and the public to achieve mutual goalsParticipate in any safety-related training required by the districtPerform related workSecondary: Perform all tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the S.S.
