Description/Duties
A Traffic Operations Worker I is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semiskilled tasks involved in painting and maintaining crosswalks and other traffic control markings. Employees of this class perform a variety of manual labor and equipment-assisted maintenance tasks associated with pavement markings such as lane lines, laying out and painting crosswalks, stop bars, curbs, and railroad crossings. A Traffic Operations Worker I is expected to operate hand-held power equipment (examples: handheld airless paint sprayer, walk-behind stripers) and laptop computers on a routine basis. The work is often performed under adverse weather conditions (example: extreme heat) and may entail working in close proximity to heavy traffic on a routine basis. This class performs related duties as required.
The Traffic Operations Worker I may be called out for emergency work and must be willing to work overtime and scheduled stand-by as required. Employees in this class are required to use appropriate safety equipment and follow safety procedures in performing work assignments. Supervision is received from a Traffic Operations Foreman II or Traffic Operations Crew Leader who reviews work through on-site observation of work in progress and completed projects. This class is FLSA nonexempt.
