Job Summary
The Starter/Ranger is responsible for seeing that guests begin their play well informed and on time and once play has begun, they adhere to course rules and sufficiently move their game along, ensuring a pleasant and respectful outing for all course players.
Weekend Hours
Position will be open until filled.
Responsibilities

  1. Greets guests before first tee, ensuring proper start at correct tee time and greens fee payments, explaining course rules and policies, and pace of play expectations. Coordinates tee times and adjustments with golf shop throughout the day.
  2. Monitors traffic flow throughout the course, ensuring appropriate pace of play; works closely with slower groups to speed up play; works to resolve or get assistance for guest concerns or disagreements during the course of play.
  3. Maintains starting area in neat and safe condition and assists other staff in keeping the course free of trash, and water and sand containers filled.
  4. Assists Professionals with recommendations regarding course conditions, policies and procedures and related activities to ensure course safety and customer satisfaction. Monitors and keeps guests informed of current or potential bad weather conditions.
  5. Assists with tournament and event set-ups on the course.
  6. Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High School or equivalent
  • 18 years of age
Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • General knowledge of golf play and course lay-out
  • Computer software skills, specifically golfing software programs; GIS
  • Ability to safely operate golf cart and instruct on its usage

  • Golf carts
  • Computer and other office machines
  • Tractor and other course maintenance equipment and tools
MENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Effort
  • Significant contact with the golfing public
  • Instruction in Rules of Play, pace of play
  • Firm but pleasant corrective communications with slower or problem players
Physical Requirements
  • Varying periods of walking/standing/picking up golf balls or debris
  • Lifting/replacing 50 pound water containers
  • Walking/riding course and outlying areas
Working Conditions
  • Course and outlying areas, occasionally in inclement weather
