The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10, employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5, trucks, cars, and other types of equipment.The Solid Waste Management (SWM) Landfill Engineering unit is responsible for the landfill closure, post-closure care, and end‑use development of the 2,-acre Fresh Kills Landfill (FKL) in Staten Island, NY. FKL consists of four landfill Sections (Section 2/8, 3/4, 6/7, and 1/9) and ancillary facilities, including the Leachate Treatment Plant and Flare Stations. The last phase of final cover construction was completed in . Currently, FKL is operating under Post Closure Care and End Use development phases. The Landfill Engineering unit is seeking to hire a candidate to be part of team operation of Fresh Kills Landfill.ResponsibilitiesProvide administrative and technical support to staff in an engineering / technical environmentParticipate in field visits/inspections with project managersSupport special projects and research tasks assignedAssist with data entry, filing, and document managementRespond to phone and email inquiries professionallyAssist with scheduling meetings and maintaining calendarsMaintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriatelyMinimum QualificationsFor Assignment Level I: Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
