Overview

The Traffic Inspector is responsible for performing inspection and evaluating work for Public Works projects involving streets, lighting, right of ways and other traffic and transportation operations. This position is also responsible for ensuring compliance with approved permits, licenses, plans, and specifications, in addition to all applicable regulations, standards, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspection, evaluate approved work and accept workmanship

• Identify areas of non-compliance regarding traffic control, construction, and vision obstructions

• Monitor and enforce compliance with safety standards, permits, licenses, construction plans, the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and relevant city, state, and federal regulations

• Perform general customer service by engaging and communicating with the public

• Develop reports on inspections and findings to deliver to supervisors

• Provide status updates and uses the work management system to investigate and report alleged violations of city, state, and federal codes, regulations, and standards

• Perform field inspections to investigate citizen requests of streets, lighting, traffic control devices, signs, pavement markings, and traffic signals

• Conduct traffic studies and collects data to support residential traffic management requests, school zone concerns, accidents, traffic control, mobility, and visibility issues

• Draft, create, and issues notices of violation

• Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrections are made

• Educate customers on applicable city, state, and federal codes, regulations, and standards

• Review and apply applicable city, state, and federal codes, regulations, and standards prior to issuance of violation in city right of way notices

• Provide administrative support as needed.

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time

• Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Three (3) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

• Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
