Dispatcher

Location: Facilities & Construction

12 months, 8 hours/day

Grade 17, $17.50/hour

Non-Interim Position

Start Date: 7/1/2026

Purpose Statement

The job of Facilities & Construction Dispatcher is done for the purpose of directing all incoming telephone calls to appropriate technical resource; coordinating work assignments for technicians and leads; and providing general clerical support.

This job reports to Director of Maintenance & Operations.

Essential Functions

Answers all incoming phone calls for the purpose of directing them to the appropriate technical resource.

Coordinates emergency procedures with utilities, technicians, emergency agencies and administration for the purpose of ensuring district's resources are effectively utilized.

Coordinates work assignments for technician and leads for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting the needs of the district.

Logs all work orders in system database for the purpose of documenting activities and/or relating activities to administration for action.

Maintains daily communications with field staff for the purpose of ensuring work orders are completed or reassigned as necessary.

Tracks progress of work orders for the purpose of making changes to the schedule as necessary.

Ability to create graphs and spreadsheets to disseminate information to supervisors.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating standard office equipment; utilizing pertinent software applications.

Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: business telephone etiquette.

Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; adapting to changing priorities; working with frequent interruptions; communicating with diverse groups; displaying tact and courtesy.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience: Job related experience is required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
