Work ScheduleMonday through Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pmDistributionThis posting is open to current Department of Corrections employees only.BenefitsEligible for retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.TeleworkThis position is not eligible for telework.ResponsibilitiesProvides the full range of supervisory duties for parole trainees during Basic Training.Oversees or participates in the planning, development, and coordination for parole trainees during Basic Training at the Training Academy; provides classroom instruction when necessary.Evaluates the effectiveness of the Basic Training program and assesses the results of relevant training programs for all levels of DOC parole staff.Plans, designs, implements, and instructs training programs for all levels of parole staff.Works with vendors to provide courses not offered by in‑house staff and provides oversight or arranges oversight for these presentations; serves as contract administrator in these situations.Serves as Manager in Charge for Training Academy operations, as directed.Independently and appropriately resolves classroom problems.Prepares technical reports related to human resources issues (e.g., accreditation documents, reports to the Office of Administration, reports on special issues).Assesses classroom instruction to ensure instructors use proper adult‑learner instructional techniques, the classroom is managed, students are engaged, co‑facilitators work together appropriately, instructors follow lesson plans and achieve learning objectives; provides instructor coaching and feedback to improve presentation skills.Ensures training conducted within Basic Training is in accordance with current DOC policies and procedures.Monitors and maintains instructor certifications and ensures that instructors have the necessary skills and certifications to teach required courses and curriculum within Basic Training and specialized programs.Provides leadership, facilitation, support, and technical expertise to Agency committees as assigned.Participates in reviews of Basic Training examinations to ensure they reflect current curriculum; assists with maintaining the Classmarker database.Supervises, investigates, and participates in fact‑finding sessions concerning violations of DOC and institutional policies, directives and procedures by subordinate staff.Travels to facilitate the performance of agent OJT audits when requested.Oversees Parole OJT completion and retains completion records.Develops and implements the BT class schedule and instructor schedule for the Parole BT program to maintain an adequate number of qualified instructors; works closely with the BT Captain and BT Lieutenant (institutional side) to schedule classrooms for instructional activities.Serves as liaison with parole supervisors and other staff related to the parole basic training program and any trainee concerns.Supervises assigned sergeants per organizational structure.Performs other duties as required or assigned.Essential FunctionsSupervise, evaluate, and direct the work of subordinate officers.Direct facility operations according to established procedures.Reach, bend, stoop, pull, push, kneel, lift, climb, and grasp.Be mobile over all types of physical surfaces and levels.Spend prolonged periods of time standing or walking.Operate basic office equipment.Maintain regular and reliable attendance.Use and maintain various equipment and tools of the corrections profession.Properly wear all portions of assigned uniform.Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.Establish and maintain effective working relationships.Attend and participate in all mandatory training and/or testing.Maintain weapons qualifications per DOC Policy 5.1.1, Section 7.Travel as required.Organization or Location RestrictionsThis posting is open to current Department of Corrections employees only.Recruitment MethodsPromotion Without Examination (PWOE)Reassignment (current civil service employees in the same agency with the same or similar job title and maximum salary, within the same occupational group, or where there is a logical career movement)Voluntary DemotionEligibilityMinimum experience and training: one year as Corrections Officer 2 or four years of corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility.Eligible under Merit System Employment Regulations.PA residency is waived.Must pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementThe Commonwealth is an equal employment opportunity employer and is committed to a diverse workforce.
