Skate Guard Position
The Skate Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, enjoyable, and well-supervised skating environment for patrons. This position monitors skating activities, enforces rink rules, provides customer assistance, and responds appropriately to safety concerns to ensure positive guest experiences.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Monitor public skating sessions to ensure compliance with rink rules and safety regulations (daily).
- Actively observe skaters and intervene when unsafe behavior or rule violations occur (daily).
- Assist skaters who fall or appear to need help and provide basic on-ice guidance when appropriate (as needed).
- Maintain rink safety by identifying and reporting hazards, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions (daily).
- Provide excellent customer service by answering patron questions and offering directions or assistance (daily).
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, including checking equipment and preparing the ice surface area (daily).
- Respond calmly and appropriately to minor incidents and follow established emergency and incident response procedures (as needed).
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates regarding safety concerns, patron issues, or operational needs (daily).
- Perform light cleaning and organizational tasks in the rink area as assigned (as needed).
Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Ability to skate confidently and maneuver safely on ice.
- Strong observational skills and ability to assess potentially unsafe situations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to enforce rules consistently and professionally.
- Customer-focused mindset with a positive and helpful attitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
Education and Experience
No specific education requirements; all experience levels welcome.
Work Environment
Physical Activities:
- Ability to skate for extended periods.
- Stand and move for long durations.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when assisting patrons.
- Lift or assist with items weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily conducted in an ice rink environment with cold temperatures, loud noise levels, and frequent public interaction. Exposure to wet or slippery surfaces is common.
