Position SummarySt. Johns Shipbuilding, located in Palatka, FL, is actively seeking a seasoned Marine Estimator to join our team. This important role involves working closely with engineering, production, and sales teams to develop accurate cost estimates for new ship construction, repair, and modification projects. The Marine Estimator plays a critical part in the proposal process, ensuring that all estimates are reflective of the true scope and scale of the work required, while also being competitive in the marketplace.Key ResponsibilitiesReview customer requirements, design plans, and specifications to create detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and other resources.Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing information and negotiate costs where necessary.Conduct site visits, when appropriate, to gather first‑hand information that will impact the accuracy of the estimate.Work with project managers and other department leads to ensure all aspects of the shipbuilding process have been considered and accounted for in the estimate.Utilize specialized software and tools to compile and present estimates to management and clients.Continuously update estimating tools and databases with the latest project actuals to enhance the accuracy of future estimates.Analyze project performance post‑completion to support continuous improvement in the estimation process.Required Education, Experience, & SkillsSignificant experience in marine estimation, with a comprehensive understanding of shipbuilding materials, processes, and labor requirements.Strong analytical skills, with an aptitude for detailed cost analysis and financial forecasting.Proficiency in estimation software and advanced Excel functions for detailed data analysis.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and interface confidently with clients and suppliers.A proactive approach, with an ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.LocationPalatka, FL, USAJob CategoryEstimatorExperience RequiredPreferred candidates will have a robust background in marine estimation or a closely related field, with a proven track record of successful project estimations.
