Dispatcher
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the daily dispatch of company and contractor drivers to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of materials to and from customer and company sites. This role involves utilizing dispatch software, communicating withinternal and external stakeholders, and supporting operational logistics. Duties include scheduling, problem-solving, equipment coordination, and compiling progress reports.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability (SHECS) policies and procedures.
- Schedule and service all dispatch requests from commercial partners, suppliers, and yard managers.
- Dispatch Sims drivers using ScrapRunner.
- Monitor and coordinate inventory across all transportation assets.
- Collaborate with the Transportation Manager (TM), Transportation Supervisor (TS), and Maintenance team to coordinate equipment servicing and repairs.
- Assist with roadside emergencies such as breakdowns, flat tires, and tow services.
- Create dispatch schedules with consideration for out-of-service (OOS) equipment.
- Prepare and maintain daily work schedules, missed load reports, and 30/60/90-day inventory updates.
- Maintain consistent and professional communication with commercial teams, suppliers, and yard managers to address scheduling issues or missed loads.
- Participate in daily operational and commercial reviews to maintain service levels.
- Assign deliveries and pickups to the appropriate driver or carrier, factoring in safety, timeliness, and driver hours of service.
- Monitor personnel and equipment locations for optimal scheduling and utilization.
- Maintain accurate records and files of all dispatch activities.
- Ensure the appropriate equipment is dispatched for each job and material type.
- Work with the Transportation Coordinator/Specialist to track driver hours of service and compliance deadlines.
- Collaborate with TM, TS, and Commercial teams to review new job sites and ensure the correct understanding of equipment needs and site logistics.
- Attend weekly regional Operations, Transportation, and Commercial meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior logistics or transportation experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with the following programs is a plus: SAI, ScrapRunner, JJ Keller Encompass, ELDs, Power BI, and RateLinx.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to sit, use hands, and communicate clearly.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to frequently lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
