Law Enforcement Training Instructor

This is a responsible non-supervisory position. First line supervisor for peace officer cadets. Facilitates training & participates in solving training problems. Primary contact; ensures cadets adhere to policies & procedures. Facilitates class leadership meetings with Basic Peace Officer Courses. Serves as a Mentor & Advisor; provides one-on-one, group academic & technical counseling. Lead instructor over adjunct instructors. Formulates, researches & develops curriculum for law academy instruction including: Basic Peace Officer Certification training, Basic Corrections Officer Certification training, tactical firearms courses, driving, & intermediate weapons training. Develops methods & tools for assessing & evaluating training effectiveness. Formulates policies & procedures for Reality based & firearm training. Formulates, researches, & develops safety protocols for reality-based training scenarios, police driving, & firearms training. Conducts surveys, audits, and inspections to ensure safety & compliance. On-site Safety Officer Assists in the preparation of BPOC calendars, securing instructors and off-site training locations; Coordinates and instructs in-service classes for the Academy as assigned; Provides rotation of maintenance of academy vehicles, simulators, firearms, and training equipment, and facility upkeep.

Essential Functions: Selects, researches, and develops curriculum for, and conducts law enforcement academy instruction in the following areas of concentration: Basic Peace Officer Certification training, Basic Corrections Officer Certification training, Tactical Firearms courses (basic, intermediate, and advanced), A.S.P. Baton Certification course, Basic Police Driving Certification course, Physical Fitness courses, including participant assessment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Desired Education/Job Experience: High School graduate or its equivalent. Must have Basic TCOLE instructor Certification and have a minimum of five years' experience as a Texas Peace Officer. TCOLE Intermediate certification or above preferred. Minimum three years' experience as an instructor with experience developing curriculum. Experience delivering training involving firearms, driving, self-defense, and tactical situations encountered by law enforcement personnel preferred. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, speak before groups, operate a computer, conduct internet research, and utilize basic computer software applications. Knowledge of effective teaching and learning techniques, extensive knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices.

This position is a Pay Grade 16, with a starting annual salary of $58,656.00. This is an exempt position. Open until Filled. Only electronic online applications will be accepted.
