The Dougherty County Police Department is hiring a Patrol Officer on a continuous basis. The role ensures public safety and enforces local, state and federal laws through patrol, crime prevention, traffic enforcement, and investigation of criminal and civil complaints.Responsibilities Patrol designated area, enforce traffic laws and issue citations, investigate traffic accidents, conduct motor vehicle stops, and redirect and control traffic flow as needed.Investigate criminal and civil complaints, make arrests, complete incident and accident reports, and complete daily activity sheets.Operate emergency vehicles, use hand‑held and vehicle radio and communication equipment, and use radar equipment.Escort funeral processions and assist citizens with animal control complaints.Work rotating shifts and perform related duties as assigned.Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent.At least 21 years of age.United States citizenship.Certified or eligible to become certified under the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Act within six months of employment.Clear background investigation.Meet height/weight standards.Pass a valid physical endurance test.Physical Demands The position involves sedentary work but also requires walking or standing for portions of the shift and may involve exerting up to 10 pounds of force and sustained keyboard operations.Unavoidable Hazards Bright or dim lighting; dust, pollen, extreme heat or cold; wet or humid conditions; extreme noise levels.Animals, vibrations, fumes or noxious odors; traffic exposure; moving machinery; electrical shock; heights; radiation; disease or pathogens; toxic chemicals; explosives; and violence.Special Certifications & Licenses Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving history.Georgia P.O.S.T. certification.Dougherty County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
