Job Summary
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and dispatching light, medium, and heavy-duty tow trucks to service calls, accident scenes, and customer requests. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to multitask under pressure, and a solid understanding of towing operations. Dispatchers serve as the central point of communication between drivers, customers, law enforcement, and company management.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize incoming service calls from customers, law enforcement, motor clubs, and internal systems.
- Dispatch appropriate tow trucks and operators based on call type, location, and equipment needs.
- Monitor driver status, job progress, and GPS locations to ensure efficient routing.
- Communicate clearly with drivers regarding job details, hazards, and special instructions.
- Document all call information accurately in dispatch software.
- Coordinate with police, fire departments, and DOT during accident recoveries.
- Provide excellent customer service, including ETA updates and problem resolution.
- Maintain knowledge of service area, traffic patterns, and common locations.
- Assist with after-hours or emergency dispatching as needed.
- Support office operations with administrative tasks when required.
- Prior dispatch experience in towing, trucking, emergency services, or logistics preferred.
- Strong communication and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and organized in high-stress situations.
- Proficiency with dispatch software, GPS systems is a plus
- Basic computer applications.
- Knowledge of towing terminology, equipment types, and recovery processes (preferred).
- Ability to pass background and drug screening.
- Must be able to communicate fluently in English
- Sit for extended periods (up to 8-12 hours during busy shifts).
- Stand, walk, and move between office areas as needed.
- Lift and carry office items, paperwork, or small equipment up to 20-25 lbs.
- Perform repetitive hand and wrist motions when typing or using communication equipment.
