DeKalb County is seeking a dependable and professional individual to serve as a part-time Bailiff supporting the operations of our court. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who values public service, takes pride in maintaining order and dignity in civic proceedings, and thrives in a structured, people-facing environment.As a Bailiff, you will serve as the judge's liaison between litigants, jurors, attorneys, and the general public - playing a vital role in ensuring that court proceedings run smoothly, professionally, and safely. You will work closely with judges, attorneys, corrections staff, and members of the public, making strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment essential to success in this position.This is a part time position, with varied schedules on Monday- Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.Essential Job FunctionsJudge's liaison between litigants, jurors, attorneys and general public; assemble all necessary parties for scheduled courtroom proceedings.Maintain courtroom and department security by identifying conditions which may create opportunities for a security incident; lock and secure the courtroom when court is not in session to assure security.Call to order and adjourn court; maintain order, decorum, and judicial process in the courtroom; bailiffs are neither trained to be nor expected to act as security personnel.Assist judges and departmental staff in special assignments as directed; may perform additional support functions such as locating and retrieving files, making copies and other related duties as requested by the Court.Significant ResponsibilitiesRequires ability to maintain appropriate courtroom order and security.Requires ability to provide appropriate segregation and supervision of jurors.Requires ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and decisively.Requires ability to employ courtesy, firmness and tact in relations with the general public.Requires ability to function effectively both verbally and in writing.Requires ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with County personnel, the court system, and the general public.Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent.Valid driver's license.Successfully complete and pass a full criminal justice background check.Working ConditionsMay be exposed to disturbing and sensitive information related to court cases.Requires a high level of alertness for all activity going on in the courtroom during proceedings.*Paper applications are also available from the Court Administrator at the DeKalb County Courthouse.#J-18808-Ljbffr
