Identifies, coordinates and instructs, agency orientation, basic and in-service classes for uniformed and non uniformed staff at the training academy and where necessary.

Researches, develops, and updates lesson plans, training aids, manuals, tests and evaluation instruments to comply with agency policy, ACA standards and state/federal law.

Maintains an accurate record keeping system for student attendance and training.

Ensures student records are maintained to meet ACA, CLEE, and any enforced consent decrees.

Maintain a level of proficiency with computer technology, software and media equipment.

Will be required to rotate to institutions for classes as needed.

Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.

Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and successfully complete a Physical Agility Assessment.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • A high school diploma and three (3) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
  • Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.

Required teaching/training experience:

  • A bachelor's degree plus one (1) year teaching/training experience.
  • An associate's degree plus two (2) years teaching/training experience.
  • A high school diploma plus three (3) years teaching /training experience.
  • Must successfully acquire a CDL within 1 year and successfully complete the following T4T courses: Basic, Defensive Driving, Defensive Tactics, ICSC for Corrections, Firearms, First Aid/CPR & AED, Less Lethal Munitions, and Respiratory Fit Testing.
  • Must maintain performance standards for All T4TS.
