Other duties as assigned.Job Duties:Patrol County roads, parks, and facilities: Perform law enforcement and crime prevention work by patrolling assigned area including traffic, parking, crowd control, answering calls for service, and investigating crimes; make arrests as necessary.Work in the County Court System as a bailiff: Preserve peace and order in the courtroom; manage court documents for jail records updates.Keep records, prepare reports, testify in court: Prepare reports of arrests, investigations, and incidents observed.Custody of County Charges and prisoners: Maintain custody of prisoners during examinations, hearings, hospital intensive security directed missions, trials or conveyance to other institutions.Attend required training: Participate in in‑service training as required by the LESB and other developmental training.Make arrests as necessary: Interview victims, complainants, witness; interrogate suspects; gather and preserve evidence; testify and present evidence in court; apply force up to and including deadly force; effect arrests and maintain order.Serve warrants, subpoenas, and civil documents.Participate in specialized units.Provide emergency medical care: Provide medical care as required as a law enforcement first responder.Safety and security of occupants: Facilitate booking, identification, release, classification, and monitoring of occupants at Milwaukee County Jail; maintain a safe and secure facility; assist courts, attorneys, and prisons; ensure occupant rights from booking until release and safety/security of staff and community.Working Conditions:Physical Demands: Continuous use of fine and manual dexterity, frequent standing, walking, running, sitting, reaching, climbing, driving, bending, kneeling, lifting, carrying 100 lbs. or more, pushing/pulling 200 lbs. or more. Must meet hearing and vision standards. Occasional typing.Candidates expected to work all shifts, holidays, weekends, mandatory overtime. Must complete the Deputy Sheriff Training Program. Position subject to a probationary period of 2600 hours of straight time hours paid, excluding overtime.Requires qualifying with a service weapon, success in law enforcement training courses, pre‑employment drug test, medical examination and physical agility test.Physical Fitness Assessment:All applicants must complete a physical assessment consistent with Wisconsin LESB standards before admission to training and at exit from training.Entrance exam: 1.5‑mile run ≤20:20, 300‑meter run ≤82 seconds, ≥18 push‑ups, ≥24 sit‑ups in 1 minute, vertical jump ≥11.5 inches, agility run ≤23.4 seconds.Exit exam: 1.5‑mile run ≤16:57, 300‑meter run ≤68 seconds, ≥23 push‑ups, ≥30 sit‑ups in 1 minute, vertical jump ≥14 inches, agility run ≤19.5 seconds.Minimum Qualifications:United States citizenship at time of appointment.Must be 20 years old at time of application.Non‑LESB certified applicants must be 21 years old by graduation date of the Academy.Lateral applicants must be 21 years old at time of contingent job offer.High school diploma or equivalency.Valid driver's license at time of application and maintained throughout employment (must obtain valid WI driver's license within 60 days after establishing residency).Possession of an associate degree or higher from an accredited college/university or at least 60 college‑level credits within five years of initial law‑enforcement employment.Physically able to perform the duties of a Deputy Sheriff.Successful completion of the Office of the Sheriff background investigation.Note: Original examination open to all qualified applicants authorized to work in the United States. Incumbent must establish residency in Wisconsin within six months of appointment and maintain residency.
