Corrections Officer: Washington County, located in West Bend, Wisconsin, currently has a great opportunity as a full‑time Corrections Officer within the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Under the general direction of the Corrections Administrator, Lieutenant, and Shift Sergeant, selected candidates will perform work involving the care and custody of inmates within the Washington County Jail. Responsibilities include supervising inmates within established policies and procedures, maintaining discipline, enforcing rules and regulations pertaining to the facility, and maintaining detailed daily jail activity reports, monitoring inmates' scheduled work, court, and medical appointments.Position SummaryUnder the general direction of the Corrections Administrator (Corrections Captain), Lieutenant, and Shift Sergeant, performs work involving the supervision, care, and custody of inmates in County detention facilities, and other duties as required.ResponsibilitiesSupervise and care for inmates in Adult & Juvenile facilities within established policies and procedures.Provide ongoing safety, security and sanitation of all inmates at all times.Provide a positive rehabilitative influence to inmates within guidelines established by the Department.Be familiar with community resources and jail programming for inmate referrals as necessary.Maintain discipline and enforce the rules and regulations pertaining to the facility through effective communication.Employ force and trained security tactics to quell disturbances and maintain discipline.Prepare and present written and oral reports as required.Receive, book, and escort inmates to cells, dormitories, or similar areas.Maintain a detailed daily jail activity report, monitoring inmates' scheduled court and medical appointments.Verify the physical and health condition of an inmate at initial intake.Verify wanted/warrant checks on inmates with Communications Officers.Submit fingerprint cards, forward disposition forms to the District Attorney's Office, file rap sheets, and notify the District Attorney of custody inmates.Fingerprint civilians for passports, citizenship and government employment.Collect DNA samples for dissemination to the State Crime Lab.Conduct inmate releases as ordered by the court, documenting necessary release procedures.Conduct regular security checks via data recorder checks and documentation.Observe inmate behavior and document any information relevant to the inmates' confinement.Complete violation reports of jail rules and documentation of inmate activities on computer.Inspect and search inmates and their quarters for cleanliness, contraband, and order.Investigate all fire and door alarms in secure jail areas.Perform evacuation procedures, including search and rescue functions, wearing a self‑contained breathing apparatus as required.Administer basic first‑aid and CPR as needed.Maintain strict security standard operating procedures for all personnel entering secure areas.Perform general housekeeping and maintenance duties in the facility as needed, inspecting areas for damage.Inspect all fire and door alarms and all locking mechanisms.Supervise housekeeping cleanliness throughout the facility, supplying a schedule for cleaning supplies to inmates.Assign, supervise, and inspect the work of inmate workers maintaining cleanliness in laundry and kitchen areas.Issue uniforms, bedding, supplies, and assist in the operation of food service facilities.Supervise laundry and uniform changes as designated by standard operating procedure.Verify Huber inmate job placements and coordinate requirements with inmate and employer.Verify and assign hours out for employment, appointments, child care or schooling, and record schedules in the computer program.Distribute jail commissary and verify inmates' signatures on receipts.Inventory necessary jail operating supplies, monitor use, and notify supervisor to reorder if necessary.Follow disciplines protecting the constitutional rights of all inmates.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsCitizen of the United States.19 years of age or older.High School Diploma or equivalent.No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.Maintain good physical condition;
