Traffic Control Technician

The Traffic Control Technician is responsible for the safe and effective setup, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic control systems on active job sites. This role plays a critical part in protecting workers, the traveling public, and ensuring compliance with all applicable traffic control regulations and standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices including signs, cones, barricades, arrow boards, and message boards
- Direct traffic using proper flagging techniques in accordance with MUTCD guidelines
- Adjust traffic control setups as needed based on site conditions and supervisor direction
- Ensure all traffic control setups comply with federal, state, and local regulations
- Conduct daily safety inspections to verify effectiveness and compliance
- Maintain safe work zones for crews, motorists, and pedestrians
- Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and project teams
- Interact professionally with the traveling public and emergency responders
- Respond promptly to changing conditions, incidents, or emergency situations
- Maintain accurate documentation of traffic control setups, inspections, and incidents
- Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards
- Contribute to a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
Success in this role is typically demonstrated by:
- Safe and compliant traffic control setups across all job sites
- Timely response to setup adjustments and changing conditions
- Consistent adherence to safety protocols and regulatory standards
- Effective communication and teamwork in field operations
- Reliable documentation and accountability in daily activities
Work environment includes:
- Field-based role in active construction and roadway environments
- Physically active work including standing, lifting, and working near traffic
- Fast-paced, team-oriented environment focused on safety and efficiency
