Traffic Control Technician

The Traffic Control Technician will help control vehicular traffic movement on construction projects by performing the following tasks:
- Maintain a constant and unyielding focus on safety in all job functions.
- Distribute traffic control signals and markers along the site in a designated pattern.
- Manage the installation, maintenance, and daily dismantling of the work zone, meeting or exceeding client, state, and company expectations.
- Lift, load, and place traffic cones weighing up to 50 pounds to ensure the safety of the work zone.
- Lift, load, place, and assemble traffic control signals in the proper order to manage traffic in the work zone.
- Keep equipment in the trucks well-organized and operational.
- Develop superior knowledge of the work zone setup, design, and professional signaling responsibilities, and be willing to share this knowledge with teammates.
- Direct traffic movement on site, using hand signals and flags.
- Warn workers and drivers when a vehicle approaches and disregards signals to prevent accidents and worker injuries.
- Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
- Record the license plate number of traffic control violators for the police.
- Give a hand signal to the last driver in the one-way traffic queue to the flagger at the opposite end of the site, indicating authorization for reverse traffic flow.
- Write and review maintenance and incident reports for site problems or concerns.
Qualifications:
- Valid drivers license with a good driving record.
- 1 year of experience.
- Knowledge and skills in implementing federal and state regulations for safety in work zones and traffic control.
- Understanding of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the translation of these to control traffic using appropriate devices and techniques.
- Knowledge of construction site safety standards and the ability to comply with them.
- 500 hours of traffic control signaling experience.
- Basic understanding of construction work sites.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
Compensation: $22-$24 per hour.
