Job Overview NERC Correction Officer at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) – responsible for maintaining control and ensuring safety and security of the institution, inmates, staff, and public.Responsibilities Enforce rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to maintain safety and security.Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility.Assure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates.Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.Complete required reports and serve on committees.Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.When necessary, use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates.Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D.; must have a valid driver's license. Positions assigned to transportation section may require a commercial driver's license. Probationary period is 365 days.Compensation Step 1 salary: $24.16 per hour. After 6 months of employment, move to Step 2 salary: $24.86 per hour.
