Armed Security Officer
Ohio Support Services (OSS) is a regionally recognized contract security service firm that provides the highest levels of customized security programs to corporate headquarters, industrial and distribution centers, multi-tenant properties, medical centers, SpecialImprovement Districts, and educational institutions. Since its founding in 1978 OSS has set the standard for the industry, designing and implementing superior, comprehensive, and cost-effective security programs.
The main goal of every Security Officer is to maintain peace and keep people andplaces safe. The armed security officer has enhanced training which guides them towards this goal.
Armed Security Officer Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide a highly visible armed security presence to deter and prevent criminal activity, safety hazards, and policy violations.
- Patrol assigned areas on foot or in a vehicle to ensure the security of personnel, property, and assets.
- Monitor access control points and verify identification to regulate entry and exit of visitors, employees, and vendors.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, alarms, incidents, and calls for service, including medical situations, disturbances, and security breaches.
- Enforce site-specific policies, procedures, and post orders while maintaining professionalism and sound judgment.
- De-escalate conflicts using trained communication techniques and apply appropriate use of force only when necessary and in accordance with company policy and legal guidelines.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and timely incident reports, logs, and documentation using company systems.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and management as needed during incidents or investigations.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting visitors, answering questions, and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
- Maintain readiness and accountability of assigned equipment, including firearms and protective gear, in compliance with all regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training, drills, and certifications to remain compliant with company standards and state requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall security program and client needs.
Armed Security Officer Qualifications and Requirements
- Have or obtain the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certificate
- Have law enforcement, U.S. military police experience or 5 years armed corporate officer experience.
- Be registered with the Ohio Department of Homeland Security; Private Investigator and Security Guard (PISGS) division.
- Protect specified individuals as identified from attacks or unwanted interactions.
- Respond immediately to threats or emergencies.
- Maintain required training to carry a firearm while working.
- Maintain training in deescalation and conflict resolution methods.
- Neat and well-groomed appearance
- Provide a high level of courtesy and customer service.
- Commitment to safety at all times.
- Excellent customer service skills (e.g. courtesy, patience, understanding, etc.).
- Good computer skills, including the following: able to use a keyboard to correctly input information accurately and efficiently into software programs; able to navigate various software applications and the internet/intranet; able to write and send emails; able to restart/reboot computers and printers; possess a reasonable general working knowledge of computers.
- Effectively speak and write the English language.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the proper use of grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Work overtime as operational needs require.
- Embody vigilance, diligence, and integrity.
- Authorized to work in the US – We Use Everify.
