This position is responsible for ensuring systems operate safely, efficiently, and according to customer expectations.The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities, experience working with automated systems, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service. This role requires attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently in the field.Key ResponsibilitiesInstallationInstall automated gate operators, motors, access control systems, and safety devicesConfigure wiring, system programming, and integration with access control and security systemsPerform testing and inspections to ensure proper operation and alignment of gate systemsVerify installations meet company quality standards and customer expectationsMaintenance & RepairDiagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and programming issues on automated gate systemsPerform preventive maintenance including lubrication, adjustments, alignment, and safety testingRespond to service calls in a timely and professional mannerTroubleshoot system malfunctions and implement effective solutionsTechnical ResponsibilitiesRead and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specificationsMaintain knowledge of current gate operator technologies, access control systems, and industry best practicesEnsure all work complies with safety standards and manufacturer specificationsAccurately document repairs, installations, and service work completedCustomer ServiceCommunicate professionally with customers regarding system issues, recommendations, and repairsEducate customers on system operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance proceduresBuild strong customer relationships through professionalism and quality serviceProvide solutions that meet customer needs while maintaining company standardsSafety & ComplianceFollow company safety procedures and OSHA requirements at all timesConduct job site safety assessments and identify potential hazardsMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentProperly use PPE, tools, and equipment during all job tasksQualificationsRequired Skills & ExperiencePrevious experience as a gate technician or in a similar automated systems roleStrong understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and mechanical componentsExperience working with automated gate operators and access control equipmentAbility to safely operate hand tools and power toolsStrong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilitiesWelding and fabrication experience preferredAbility to work independently and manage field service responsibilitiesPreferred SkillsLow‑voltage electrical certification or related experienceExperience programming access control systems including keypads, intercoms, and card readersFamiliarity with network‑based gate systems and remote access technologyCDL or experience operating light equipment such as skid steers or trenchersPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift and carry up to 80 poundsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsFrequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and physical labor throughout the dayAbility to climb ladders and work in confined spaces when requiredWhy Join Thomas Fence?At Thomas Fence, we value craftsmanship, teamwork, and customer satisfaction.
