The Forestry Technician III-IV willbe a member of a Forest Health crew and be under the supervisionof the Program Manager, and may perform a variety of natural resources-related tasks. This position requires aperson who can work effectively in a collaborative environment, is self-directed, is comfortable workingindependently, and can motivate themselves and a crew to maintain a high level of work quality, efficiency, andprofessionalism. The Forestry Technician III-IV is a full-time, seasonal, fully benefited position runningapproximately March through November. It is a great opportunity to gain field experience and work with arange of partners. The candidate list generated from this announcement will be used to fill future vacancies inthis job classification.Required Qualifications:1. Ability to lead or participate on a crew to consistently perform tasks to the level of quality and quantityexpected2. Ability to perform hard physical labor in rugged terrain, in inclement weather, and in very smoky conditions3. Ability to work independently or as a team to complete natural resource-related tasks4. Ability to always maintain a high level of safety for yourself and others5. Ability to communicate effectively and problem solve6. Flexibility to assist with a variety of tasks to support District needs7. Ability to lift 50 lbs8. Possession of a valid California Driver's License9. Ability to pass a drug test/screening and physicalDesired Qualifications:Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:1. Experience working with the operation of common forestry equipment for natural resource managementactivities, such clinometer, relaskop, compass2. Experience collecting data with a GPS (Garmin, Avenza, Trimble etc.)3. Ability to drive a 4x4 truck in inclement weather on poor road conditions4. Knowledge of general forestry concepts; academic coursework in forestry or related subjects5. Plant identification skills and familiarity with the local flora6. Wildland Firefighting experience/qualifications7. Knowledge of first aid and emergency response protocols8. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and to navigate socially difficult situations9. Ability to camp for up to 4 days when excess drive time warrantsDuties:The Forestry Technician III-IV will perform a wide variety of natural resources-related work, including but notlimited to:• Operation of various forestry equipment for data collection.• Forest project unit layout• Timber cruising, stand exams, and other plot data.• Complete all required crew documentation, such as mileage logs, crew reports, safety meetings, andcrew evaluations• Photo documentation of work as needed• Work with District and federal partners to develop work plans• Communicate with landowners to develop private parcel treatment plans• Participate in prescribed fire (pile burning and broadcast burning)• Work independently to achieve District and Partner goals• Other related tasks as directedTo Apply:Please submit a resume to TCRCD.
