    Public Safety Officer

    The UT Police Department in Houston, TX is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Public Safety Officer to help protect and serve the University. In this vital role, you'll be the first line of defense - screening individuals entering campus facilities, patrolling the grounds, and ensuring a safe, secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. From identifying potential security concerns to leading emergency evacuations, you'll play a key role in maintaining order and upholding the institution's safety standards.     Position Key Accountabilities:

    • Patrol: Patrols university buildings and property on foot to prevent theft, vandalism or fire.
    • Calls for Service: Responds to calls for service and provides requested services in a timely manner and in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Screening: Actively screens all persons entering university facilities; challenges persons without appropriate identification and all suspicious persons.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education/Certification/Skills:

    • A valid Texas Driver's License is required for this position.
    • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

    Preferred Certification/Skills:

    • IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer One or more levels of certification (Certified Healthcare Security Officer, Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer, or Certified Health Security Supervisor) is preferred.

    Minimum Experience:

    • 1 year of experience in a customer-focused position is required. 2 years of experience in a customer-focused position is preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

    Security Sensitive:

    • Security Sensitive: This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

    Residency Requirement:

    • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
