    Pay Type: Hourly

    Contract Work Year: 185 Days

    Reports To: Police Sergeant

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    High school diploma or GED; Must be at least 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required. Must have a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle operator's license with endorsements compatible with assigned duties of Cherokee County Board of Education. Must maintain acceptable level of physical and mental fitness to meet departmental standards. Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully with children, families, and motorists. Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and be able to remain attentive and focused during duty periods.

    GOAL

    To help create a safe environment for students traveling to and from school by guiding pedestrian movement and coordinating traffic flow near school property. The role supports the district's commitment to student protection and efficient daily operations.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Assist students and other pedestrians crossing roadways in designated school zones, ensuring safe passage during arrival and dismissal times.
    • Regulate the flow of vehicles to create safe crossing opportunities.
    • Help maintain orderly vehicle movement for school buses entering and exiting campus.
    • Maintain a calm, courteous, and professional demeanor while interacting with the public.
    • Wear district-approved safety apparel and equipment at all times while on duty.
    • Remain at designated post for the entire shift unless relieved or instructed otherwise.
    • Report concerns such as unsafe behavior, hazardous conditions, or recurring traffic issues to the appropriate supervisor.
    • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills and use proper hand signals and visual cues that rely on coordinated hand-eye movement and fine motor control to direct both pedestrian and vehicle traffic safely.
    • Approach responsibilities with dependability, flexibility, and a commitment to the safety mission of the district.
    • Exercises sound judgment and discretion when making decisions to halt traffic for school buses, ensuring the safety of students and adherence to traffic regulations.
    • Maintain a high level of attentiveness and vigilance while on duty, continuously monitoring the environment to identify and respond promptly to potential safety concerns or incidents.
    • Complete all job assignments in a timely, accurate and professional fashion.
    • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.
    • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
    • Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to assignments.
    • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
    • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
    • Follow federal and state laws, and Board policies.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
