Fresno County Department of Behavioral health invites applications for the position of
Licensed Vocational Nurse II. Incumbents p rovide basic nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses and/or licensed physicians and within the scope of the Vocational Nursing Practice Act. Responsibilities include provision of basic hygienic and nursing care; measurement of vital signs; basic client assessment and documentation; administration of skin tests within the course of a tuberculosis control program; and administration of immunizing agents and prescribed medications.
The current vacancies exist in the
Department of Behavioral Health. However, t he eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies in other County departments as they occur.

Minimum Qualifications Experience : One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
License : Valid Licensed Vocational Nurse’s License issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
Possession of a valid venipuncture certification may be required.
Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, may be required.
Note : Recruitment and/or certification may be limited to candidates possessing a specific education background related to the specific position vacancy as authorized by the Director of Human Resources.

SELECTION PROCESS: Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
- Tentative Exam Dates: June 8-9, 2026
- Tentative Interview Dates: June 24 and June 26, 2026
- Additional interviews, including those with other departments, will be scheduled as needed.
Please Note: - The eligible list for this recruitment may be extended up to 12 months, and may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions.
- Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS: Positions in these classifications are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved.
