    Job Summary

    Performs design, analysis, development, technical, and maintenance work for the City’s enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) and contributes to GIS projects.

    SUPERVISION

    Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no supervis ion over staff.

    Representative Duties

    C reates and maintains GIS data, layers, maps, interactive maps, services, and 3D assets.

    Digitizes customer-supplied information.

    Creates, edits, and maintains the City’s collection of enterprise GIS layers.

    Emits GIS data via Esri product suite, freeware tools, online mapping tools, and other third-party products across all applicable mediums.

    Performs field inventories for the collection of the GIS data.

    Trains and assists system users in new and existing applications .

    Supports staff Citywide with the implementation of Geospatial technologies .

    Ensures the accuracy and completeness of digital GIS maps and data files.

    Updates and changes data and maps as necessary. Prepares GIS maps for use by numerous departments in the City .

    Develops GIS data policies , standards, and procedures for users.

    Participates in professional associations, meetings , and conferences regarding GIS.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Option A:

    Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a b achelor’s degree in i nformation s ystems, c omputer s cience, computer technology, g eography , or a closely related field .

    Experience: One year of recent, paid work experience in the field of GIS.

    OR


    Option B:

    Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a n associate degree in i nformation s ystems, c omputer s cience, computer technology, g eography , or a closely related field .

    Experience: Two year s of recent, paid work experience in the field of GIS.

    OR

    Option C:

    Experience: Three year s of recent, paid work experience in the field of GIS.

    Licenses and Certificates:

    Possession of a valid Class C driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    Successful completion of a GIS/Cartography certification program is desirable.

    Selection Process:

    Testing may consist of a combination of any of the following and is subject to change as needs dictate:

    Training and Experience Evaluation -Qualifying

    Oral Interview - 100%

    If three or more qualified City employees apply and pass the examination, a promotional list will be established in addition to an open-competitive list. If fewer than three qualified City employees pass the examination, the appointing authority, in accordance with the City's civil service rules and regulations, can decline to use a promotional list, in which case a promotional list will not be established for this position.

    Background Investigation:

    Candidates who have successfully completed all prior phases of the selection process will be subject to a thorough background investigation.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is generally performed in a busy office environment. The position requires frequent visits to off-site locations. May be required to occasionally work weekends and/or irregular hours.
